Picture of the Day

Today we saw a very young, about 25cm long pike. That was awesome, because normaly you don't see such fishes so clear in the water. Mating season is near, maybe that's why that pike was in the pond-like section of the lake.

Antilocapra americana

Hello and welcome to another entry about my collected oddities. This time I want to talk about my christmas present to myself of 2016. It's a skull of an unordinary animal. An animal, which only lives in North America. Did I arouse your curiosity? Well, then let's go under the cut!

Winter - so far so good

Winter 2016/2017 started very strange. It was a long time too warm and there was no snow, not even in the mountains. There was also no rain, it was too dry! This unusually warm time was the reason that a lot of the migratory birds didn't came to our shores. I think they stayed at home or didn't fly so far as usual. Well, but there were still animals for my camera. See my loot under the cut!

New Year Bones

About a year ago my uncle was telling me about a skull he spotted in a hedge near his house. It was the skull of a hare, he said. If I'm interested in it, he will bring it to me the next time we will meet again, he said.Well, we met a few times but he always forgot the skull. Until now, he brought it to me. But it wasn't the skull of a hare in the box, oh no... What's in that box? See it under the cut!

Christmas Presents

I know I'm a bit late, but I found these two feathers on the 25. December. Both are very special and unique. The first one is a crow feather with white spots on it. I found many crow feathers so far, but non of them had white markings on it - so, WOW!

The second one is from a bird I rarely see: it's a feather of a kingfisher! I almost stomped on it, it was pure luck to find it on the ground. But I was so happy to find such a feather, a wish came true! <3

Only a smal part of the feather is blue.
Eh, I'm so happy about these findings that I needed to share them. <3
Have a nice 2017!

Bird Beaks

I was interested in animals and bones since I was a small kid, but I preferred mammals more than birds and I think it's still that way. Anyhow, birds could be very impressive too, especially when it comes to their beak. Cool people could say a lot about a bird by just looking at its beak. I'm not that cool, but I'm trying xD
So, I have three interesting bird skulls with amazing beaks here, let's have a look at them under the cut!

Picture of the Day

Caterpillar of Phlogophora meticulosa. We met it at the last warm day in November the 4th. I hope it found a cozy place right now.
